MYTHICAL FACTS

The “Golden Mycenae”, the kingdom of the mythical Agamemnon, first praised by Homer in his epics, is the most important and richest palatial center of the Late Bronze Age in Greece. Its name has been given to one of the most brilliant civilizations of Greek prehistory, the Mycenaean.

Mythical tradition holds that the founder of Mycenae is Perseus.

Perseus named the new city Mycenae either because the hilt of his sword fell there or because a spring with abundant water, the Persian spring, was discovered there, under the root of a “myketos”, that is, a mushroom.
